This is an acrylic painting I did of Birkdale village in Southport Merseyside where I live. Part of the pavement is undercover, casting shadows on the tiled pavement. With the sunlight reflecting off the shop windows and other shadows cast by trees and posts it presented an interesting image. I have just uploaded this onto my website grahammcquadefineart.com.
I have often ventured into Liverpool to paint the buildings and streets. The light pays an important part in the image. I have not managed to find Dale Street in the kind of light that I would like. This came close in the afternoon with the light cutting up along the side streets. I have just put this painting on my website: grahammcquadefineart.com along with other scenes of Liverpool.
A watercolour of Lake Windermere at Water Head with the early morning light. I did a similar scene one November and was slowed by the water on my palette freezing. Not having any alcohol available I returned for a cup of tea.

A watercolour of Southport Pier on Merseyside I have just completed. I have been painting a lot around the beach recently, with the striations of wet and dry sand leading away into the distance. I will be putting this on my website grahammcquadefineart.com along with other paintings of the locality.
This is a self portrait in oils using a technique of glazes giving deep rich transparent darks and adding the lighter, less transparent lights and highlights towards the end.
