RED REPOSE – PASTEL FIGURATIVE PAINTING

P1060963(1)

Just playing around with pastels at the life drawing group. I got home and I realised that I left a box of my pastels behind: greys, blacks, whites, greens and purples. Hope I get them back. You build up a collection of them over time and you get used to all the shades and hues.

Other figurative work is on my website: grahammcquadefineart.com

  1. Fascinating juxtaposition of color scheme and content. Red is usually used to convey things like energy or danger, so this restful sort of presentation is very eye-catching. I like it.

  2. The symbolism of colour is more a reflection of ourselves and our societies. Red can mean everything you say, but it is at the low energy end of the visible spectrum and there was a time red/pink was used as a motif for boys – blood/vitality/strength – now it is now blue, well it is around here.
I think when you keep the colour range of anything very tight it tends to be less frenetic which was what I was doing here.
Thanks for taking the time for making your comment.
