Out one morning painting, I spotted this footpath across a field that the farmer had preserved. If I had come across it earlier I would have used that as my subject, but I had just completed two watercolours, so I took a few photos instead. On the other side of the lane I I discovered a cherry tree and got a bagful of cherries to supplement the morello cherries on my tree at home. I made three pots of cherry jam yesterday. I love cherry jam on toast – particularly after a tough morning with the paintbrush..
Other landsscapes in pastel, watercolour and acrylics are available for sale on my website: grahammcquadefineart.com
Another one of my favorites, beautiful painting. And, the cherry jam sounds devine.

Thanks Sharron. Not sure how long it’s going to last – the vultures are hopping closer.

Nice painting, it really sparkles with sunlight and the shadows on the right hand side. Also you didn’t get too caught up in the detail of the grass!!

A wonderful landscape Graham, I think the softness of pastels helps imply a soft summer breeze, moving the barley lazily around. Thank you for sharing.

Thanks Kevin. Some subjects do seem to suggest a particular medium. I picked pastels for this one mainly for a change of pace and also I thought that they might be better for depicting the barley – though the jury’s still out on that. I might pick it up again later and develop it a bit further.
