ON THE STREET WHERE I LIVE – WATERCOLOUR PAINTING

Well it’s actually a Drive where I live – but Alan Lerner apparently lived on a street- so you do what you have to, to make the title work.

I was putting the bins out the other day and looked up the Drive to see the autumn sun piercing the remaining leaves on the sycamore trees and patterning the pavement. I thought that it would make a good painting.

I added the dog walker as a focal point. There are plenty of them about as evidence on the pavement abounds.

  1. I found your clarification about the street and drive quite interesting. Here in the States, few people understand the distinctions between different types of roads. In fact, many are confused by the differences between referring to them as a street, drive, way, place, etc. (The usually understand “circle.”)

    Beautiful work.

    • Thanks Rob. Well you do have a distinction in New York, for instance, with the use of streets and avenues. Why a drive, I dont know, it’s an avenue – tree lined. Though this was the grounds of an old country house- so it may mimic the path of the drive to the house or it could be the confection of a planner’s mind – we also use these terms liberally.
