Wednesday was a sunny day so I cycled out to get some more information for a painting I was planning. This park was close to my area of interest, so I stopped by and I couldnt resist this contra jour scene of the old Victorian gatehouse to the park and the people enjoying the afternoon sunshine.

Lovely warm painting (light and emotion), Graham. I feel like I’m there.
I really like the tree shadow too.

Thanks Chris. I thought it was a good idea at the time, but now I’m not so sure. I put in the tree trunk to explain the shadow and got constrained by it. I might get rid of the trunk, as the light glistening branches imply its presence and then have some freer shadows in the foreground. It’s one of the reasons why I use this blog – to reflect on my painting.

Fair enough! That’s how we get better, right, by reflecting on what we’ve done and improving. Sounds good.

Beautiful view of the botanic garden, spring looks a little more advanced where you are. Our weather has been warm, but manic. One day theres snow flurries, then 2 days later its 18C and sunny.
