A view I’ve done before, but this time I thought I would make more of the sunset and it’s effects. I’ve used the woman crossing the road with her shopping bags in another painting, but she fits in well here.
I think I’ve mentioned before, in earlier blogs, how the sunset in winter months is quite spectacular on Lord Street, the main street in Southport, where I live. I also spotted the light reflecting off the surface of a puddle in the gutter and, if nothing else, that was reason enough for me to do a painting.

This is absolutely stunning. You invite viewers right into your paintings. This piece is very Rockwell-ish.

Thanks Vic, though I always had Rockwell down for detailed figurative social commentaries. I think my figures are a bit on the vague side.

Thanks Tiffany. I do like bright winter evenings on this street. Many of the windows also pick up the glow. A great lightshow.

Nice street scene, Kind of reminds me of Kingston, Ontario a smaller city, but big enough for busy roads that go on forever. I like how you did a panorama style format where all the buildings are small and far away, it really focuses on the atmosphere, of the sunset itself. I would say the people crossing the road are the main focal point.

Thanks Shawn. I was hoping the viewer would focus on the woman with bags crossing the road and then lead on to the setting sun by the clocktower – but humans are fickle beings…

The last light of day captured perfectly, Graham. It reminds me of Paisley Road West in Glasgow.
