HOLLY HOCKS AND FOXGLOVES – WATERCOLOUR PAINTINGS

P1150337(1)P1150338(1)

I have to do a demonstration and workshop in September on floral watercolours so I thought I’d get my backside into gear and try out some possibilities. The hollyhocks is a version of the first flower painting I sold and as such is a solid standby. Foxgloves are flowers I find very fussy to paint and  I was trying to get the impression of them here. I think I have overdone it again  and need to get less specific, maybe I’ll have another go, but at least I have something to present.

FOXGLOVES ON PARBOLD HILL -PASTEL PAINTING

P1100270(1)

In August I put out the same picture in watercolours. I wasn’t that happy with it and I wondered if it would be better done in pastels. So here it is and now when I compare there are improvements, but I have lost the lighting I achieved with the watercolour and I also made more of a feature of the foxgloves. Maybe that’s something I might do later to this painting.

FOXGLOVES AMID FOLIAGE AND LIGHT ON PARBOLD HILL – WATERCOLOUR PAINTING

P1090792(1)

This is the third painting from my trip up Parbold Hill in early July when the weather was good. The low light of the evening sun pushing through the contorted trees attracted me and the splashes of red from the drifts of foxgloves gave some complementary colour. It made for a productive trip even though I didn’t quite get the view of the churches I was after.
