NIGHT MARKET – PASTEL SKETCH

Another of the street food series. I liked the oranges against the blues. I couldnt quite decipher what the stall was selling but the poses of the stall holder and customers was interesting. I’m still exploring the subject at the moment and even deciding what medium to use, though with pastel I seem to be getting a dynamic effect.

STREET FOOD – PASTEL PAINTING

In Bangkok, as in every town and city, in south east Asia there are stalls offering fresh food and drink along the roadsides and in night markets. I thought I might explore some of the images I collected along the way. I like the spotlit figures surrounded by an almost abstract background. For me, there is a theatricality about them which adds to their draw.

This picture is developed from a number I took in Sathorn, a district in Bangkok, where we had just had a meal sat out on the pavement.

THE GANG GATHERS – ACRYLIC PAINTING

P1140449(1)

Some may recognise this as part of  an earlier Liverpool painting (Feb 5th). I liked the four figures backlit from the shop and their shadows cast along the wet pavement. On completion I don’t think I got what I was after. Perhaps I should have pared it down even more and lost some of the top, which I put in for context.

Well it kept me off the streets, hanging around newsagents, I suppose.

THE END OFA SATURDAY AFTERNOON IN LIVERPOOL 1- ACRYLIC PAINTING

P1100468(1)

Normally I am in Liverpool early on a Saturday, but as my daughter came up for a few days to stay we went into the city for an early evening meal and before I met up with them I wandered around with my camera. Fortunately it rained and the reflections on the wet pavements really added to the atmosphere. I really liked the youths hanging around the newsagent and the reflected light coming past their bodies. I hear its going to be a wet Saturday tomorrow, so I might get back down, but in any case there may be a few more shots in the camera.

A WET NIGHT ON BOLD STREET -ACRYLIC PAINTING

P1100286(1)

I think on an earlier post with a painting of Bold Street, Liverpool,  I said that it wasn’t my first and probably wouldn’t my last. Well I wouldn’t want to disappoint and it follows on with another night scene. I have done a few of night-time in Liverpool, but wasn’t overly satisfied. I am more satisfied with this, focussing in on a subject and aided by the reflections of the wet pavements it has got  a bit more energy than the others, maybe enough energy for me to try another. We shall see.

A merry Christmas to all.
