I wanted to do a painting of the expanse of fields and woods that lie inland from Southport, where I live, just north of Liverpool . I’m a bit underwhelmed by the outcome, a game of two halves, in my opinion. I tried to put variation into the grass but it still doesn’t come off – just too much of it.
But this is how it looks – you just need to get it on a good day. Back to the drawing board.

Out on my bike one morning and cycling along the flat lanes that bisect the rich agricultural land which lies behind Southport, I turned to see the light coming in from behind the trees. The images I photographed were quite dark, but hopefully I got the essence. Once again done in three colours. I do like the effect that they give. I also must give three other colours a go – the cool yellow, cool blue and cool red. These were done in the warm red, yellow and blue.
