LAST LIGHT ON THE ALT – WATERCOLOUR PAINTING

P1040555(1)a

Back to the task of getting some paintings for the exhibition at Little Crosby. The Alt is a small tributary to the Mersey, opening out into its estuary, not far from Little Crosby. A number of boats moor up there. This one was done at sunset and is a subject I have painted before. I love the trail of buoys and markers down the watercourse and the reflections and patterns in the vast expanse of wet sand out to the Mersey and Irish sea. At present you can hear the sounds of migrating Canada geese as they feed way out in the distance  on the sands. Looking the other way in the morning you get the view below.

The block of flats on the right is an eyesore and I blended it out in the morning sunlight. The houses dont do much either, so I kept them as simple as possible. Hopefully they will appeal to someone, as this is a well visited spot of wildness in a built up area at the north end of Liverpool.

BOAT PEOPLE – ACRYLIC PAINTING

P1020452(1)

I was thinking about entering the marine artists exhibition in London. I had a couple of suitable paintings but wanted something a little different so that I could judge what it is that they are looking for a bit better and worked up this idea. Now that it’s complete I’m a little underwhelmed by it. I have got tighter than I would have liked. I’ll prop it against the wall and have a look at it over the next week or so  and make my mind up. I have used motifs that I have used as subjects before, in case you are wondering whether you’ve already seen it.

HARBOUR BOATS BOBBING IN THE FLOW – WATERCOLOUR PAINTING

p10203531

I had a number of photos of boats in the small harbour at La Val Andre in Brittany and wondered how they would look in an elongated format. I was taken by the two red boats (off different photos) against the grey green of the water.

SETTING SAILS – ACRYLIC PAINTING

p10203191

I’ve been a bit busy this week with an exhibition running and another starting next week, I suddenly realised my blog needs a new posting. So here it is, continuing with the beach theme. A bit more colourist than my normal fair, but I suppose I need to  relieve the muted tones occasionally, just in the name of variety.
