I had a painting of begonias that I liked, but it never sold ( see below) so I felt maybe I should do another version. As my floral paintings have been a bit hit and miss of late, I got hold of an old painting, turned it over and tried out a sketch on the reverse. Here it is. I was quite pleased with the result. There are a few things that I could and should change – so be warned the final one may be coming your way soon.

Other floral paintings are available on my website: grahammcquadefineart.com
The beautiful sunlit flowers and the stormy sky are a good contrast

Thanks Sharon. Those clouds are supposed to be a loose rendition of my shrubbery to provide a counterfoil for the flowers. Still it may have caused other people confusion and the reason for the lack of a sale.

I’ve just looked, again, at your painting, and I can see now your shrubbery intention. It’s all in the eye of the beholder, right? I do love the painting.

These are both quite lovely! You certainly have a way with flowers, great detail yet soft and light, well done! Don’t mess with it too much!

Thanks Tiffany. Hopefully I will build on them – if not, it’s just a piece of paper…

Nice paintings, every year I have to debate whether or not I should plant begonias or impatiens in my shady garden. This year Impatiens won.

Thanks Shawn. I think begonias and impatiens do better in a well lit area – but I guess they give some good colour.
