I worked this up from my sketches. It seemed like a good idea at the time, but having completed it, I feel it lacks a little something. Nevertheless, it’s pleasant enough, and I thought by posting it and having it up in front of me for a while, I might get inspiration to pep it up a bit with an addition or two – perhaps another narrowboat?
Sometimes you need to pull into the side to take stock.

In opening WP “reader” I read about your concerns but when actually opening the post 2 ducks appeared close to the lower edge of the painting. It seemed as if you’d solved the problem! 😉 (Perhaps a 3rd one, making a splash!) 🤔

Thanks Ashley. I fear that it’ll take more than a fleet of moorhens to get me satisfied – but I appreciate your thoughts.

I love all your canal posts. In this one, I particularly like that there’s only one boat. It’s got a solitary and calming feeling about it. A subjective opinion but I do like it.

Thanks Gail. I was after the solitary feel, but with a bit more punch. It’s a bit limp, though a second narrowboat might ruin the ambience.

Perhaps increasing the light so it impacts/washes out the top corner of the boat would create the impact you’re looking for.

Yes, I suppose some strong low light and a bit of contrast could be an option. Thanks Gail.
